The yellowtail coris wrasse is one of the most beautiful Hawaiian reef fish to us. Yellowtails are a striking combination of reds, blues, and greens, with a yellow tail. They are a friendly fish, often not shy at all, and are easy to photograph. Color varies among individuals, and smaller fish are often more brightly colored than older adults. Juvenile yellowtail coris wrasses are bright orange and white and look almost like certain clownfish, which are not found in Hawaii. Juveniles of many wrasses such as this one look completely different than adults.
