Yellow Tang

Zebrasoma flavescens

Yellow tangs are a classic Hawaiian reef fish. The Kona Coast was once called the Gold Coast because these fish were found in such numbers close to shore that the water appeared golden. While these are not as abundant as they once were, we have seen some areas in recent years along Kealakekua Bay such as Honaunau where the water still teems with beautiful golden clouds of yellow tangs. Sometimes yellow Pacific trumpetfish will hide inside a school of tangs.
