Wedgetail Triggerfish

Rhinecanthus rectangulus

Wedgetail triggerfish have beautiful patterning with a triangle shape near the tail. These are fairly common in Hawaii like the lagoon triggerfish, which they somewhat resemble. Called Humuhumunukunukuapua`a in Hawaiian, the wedgetail triggerfish was designated as the official state fish of Hawaii in 1985 on a five-year trial basis, which was later made permanent in 2006.
