Palenose Parrotfish

Scarus psittacus

Palenose Parrotfish are common in Hawaii. They have a thinner build and are less stock than other parrotfish. Like all parrotfish, they switch between being male and female and chew up coral. Males are brightly colored. Most of the white sand found near Hawaii’s reefs is actually coral that parrotfish have chewed up. Underwater where there are parrotfish, you can hear them biting the coral.
